What you’ll be doing

We are looking for an Assistant Project Leader to join the construction logistics team within the UK Parliament — a unique opportunity to work at the heart of one of the most complex and historically significant estates in the world. As part of the Strategic Estates directorate, you will help ensure the safe, efficient and compliant planning of construction activity across a live World Heritage site. This role is ideal for someone looking to expand their project delivery skills in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment where logistics, safety and operational excellence intersect.

This small team of five plays a crucial role in coordinating and enabling over 180 active and planned projects across the estate, managing all works on site and future works planning, including 22 live sites rising to over 40 by 2026/27. You will support day‑to‑day logistics, safety and welfare arrangements for contractors, and provide essential operational continuity for the Construction Manager, Logistics Manager and Head of Construction.

Hybrid working: This role is offered on a hybrid basis, with an expectation of spending a minimum of 40% of your time on the Parliamentary Estate

What we’re looking for

We are seeking someone who is motivated to grow their project leadership capability and develop within a busy construction logistics environment. Key attributes include:

  • A developing understanding of how construction or refurbishment projects operate, with the curiosity to analyse information and make sound, evidence‑based decisions.
  • A willingness to learn procurement and contract management processes, ensuring consultants and contractors deliver to required safety, quality and time standards.
  • Confidence working with financial information, including budgets, payments, and tracking changes in scope.
  • An organised and methodical approach to planning, documentation control and tracking access/permit requests, with attention to accuracy and confidentiality.
  • Strong communication skills, able to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, and adapt messaging for both technical and non‑technical audiences.
